To everything there is a season

Aren’t old friends wonderful? My oldest friend and I catch up every week with our daughters for a ‘playdate’, and we endlessly chew the fat about life in general, and specifically motherhood.

She had read a book recently that was talking about the seasons of motherhood. She was saying how she really wants to enjoy this ‘season’ with her little baby girl, just enjoying the ‘gentle rhythm’ of domestic life and knowing that there is plenty of time for challenging, stimulating activities in the future.

Very wise indeed. We all know how fast our children grow. When I talk to mothers of older children they implore me to enjoy this time, because this ‘season’ is all too short.

Its something I need to be reminded of from time to time. I’m often tempted by the  financial incentive of a return to the workforce.  But, there will be plenty of time in the future for earning money, wearing nice clothes and eating fancy lunches. But this is the only time I’m going to get to play endless games of  ‘peekaboo’, watch my daughter learn to walk, and get marmite-y kisses all over my face.

And this season will be all too short.
